Using Data and Effective Instruction Strategies to Meet the Needs of Every Student
| | | In light of new accountability standards in education there is more than ever a need to meet the needs of every student. The Amphitheater School District did not make adequate yearly progress and is working with teachers to find ways to meet the needs of all of their students. Teachers need to be able to use a variety of data and instructional strategies as they develop curriculum and instruction and work with their diverse students. |

Planning and Assessment o Incorporate standards, objectives, essential questions, and DesCartes skills in planning o Understand MAP data and access MAP reports o Use MAP and other data to guide and modify instruction o Develop instructional ladders to meet the individual needs of their students o Implement a variety of classroom assessment to provide ongoing assessment o Use backwards design in planning process o Incorporate research based grading and reporting practice to monitor and report student achievement Differentiated Instruction o Discuss what differentiated instruction is. o Understand the components of curriculum differentiation and differentiated strategies. o Analyze instructional data and content in order to design differentiated lessons. o Collaborate to share content lessons within grade level or content area groups. o Develop strategies for active student engagement in a differentiated classroom. o Analyze the role of the teacher in the management of a differentiated classroom. o Develop strategies for building a student-centered classroom. Content Area Learning Strategies o Align content and performance standards to achieve desired outcomes o Determine where students are in terms of implementing strategies o Have multiple and ongoing ways to assess students on the desired objectives o Engage students using a variety of individual, paired and group activities o Monitor and adjust instruction using the principals of modeling, background knowledge, purpose and assessment o Provide opportunities for enduring understanding through discussing, writing and organizing o Move students toward increased independence in their own learning o Implementation of Bloom’s Taxonomy to promote higher order thinking skills
