In November of 2006, voters in Pima County approved the formation of a Joint Technological Education District (JTED). JTED was established in July of 2007 to provide high school students with expanded Career and Technical Education options. The mission of JTED is to deliver premier career and technical education in partnership with business, industry, and community stakeholders.
Here at Amphi, we provide our students a choice from central and satellite programs. The satellite programs offered at our high schools include; Business Management and Administration, Fashion Design, Drafting, Automotive Technology, Early Childhood Education, Marketing, Graphic Design, Photo, and Culinary Arts.
In addition to the aforementioned programs offered at Amphi high schools, JTED offers several programs at its central sites for the 2008-2009 school year. These options include; Cosmetology, Fire Sciences, Nursing Services and Aircraft Mechanics.
“The JTED provides expanded opportunities for our students. Not only do they have more program options where they can get career skills and hands on experiences, students are provided state of the art equipment and facilities to work in. Students are acquiring specific jobs skills they can use right out of high school and also a taste of the industry itself. For example, we have students who participated in our certified nursing assistant program that plan to become doctors or nurses but can work as CNAs as they attend college,” said Patti Greenleaf, Director of Career and Technical Education, Amphitheater Public Schools District.
Currently, there are close to 17,500 JTED students representing 11 of the school districts in Pima County. Amphi students at all three high schools account for 1,500 of the total JTED enrollment.
