Amphitheater Teacher Created Lesson Plans
This section of the site is dedicated to the lesson plans created by the Educational Technology participants.

Creating and Comparing Using the SmartBoard- In this lesson, the teacher will explain to the students that they will have an opportunity to complete a Venn Diagram comparing two animals on the Smart Board. The students will have the opportunity to use Smart Notebook to create a Venn diagram including 4-5 comparisons of each animal. The students will compose their comparisons on the Smart Board and then print a copy of their work. This lesson should be done after the teacher has taught animal groups (birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish and arthropods) to the class and the class has begun the research process for writing the required Research Paper Project.

Pollination Ecology- How many people have given or received flowers as gifts? How many people realize that these pretty, sweet smelling gifts are bunches of reproductive organs? Humans often forget that the purpose of a flower is reproduction and that most flowers are not able to reproduce without assistance. This lesson is designed to have students explore the process of pollination and the strategies flowering plants use to get themselves pollinated. Students will use several Internet sites to learn about pollination. They will use a Smartboard to present what they learn to their classmates.

Pop Goes the Poem- Using picture books is one of the better avenues to have students practice identifying the six traits of writing. This lesson presents one author, one of the writing traits and poetry to help students revise their written work.

The Revolutionary War and the Idea of Bullying- Students will describe and identify the concept of bullying. They will then apply it to the British and American colonists during the Revolutionary War through an essay, an illustration and an oral presentation. This lesson plan, in part, has been designed for improving writing skills on a SMART Board, but could easily be adapted to a chalkboard.

Sequencing with a SmartBoard- In this lesson, students will be assembled into groups of three or four. Students will be responsible for reading a selected picture book, identifying six main ideas from the text, and mixing the main events into an unorganized list. Student groups will then record their unorganized lists into the SMARTBoard notebook software. Once all groups have entered their list, student groups will receive a different group’s book and their created list. Students will organize the new list of main events, and using the Smart Ideas Software or concept mapping software, create a concept map of the assigned story and events.
