Amphitheater's approach to elementary education focuses on building a strong foundation in core academic areas, including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies while also providing education in arts, music and PE. Our certified teachers foster problem-solving skills, creativity, and a love of learning, all within a safe and nurturing environment.
We keep our classroom sizes small to ensure our students get the attention they need, and when it's time for a change of scenery, children enjoy playgrounds with plenty of room to run and play! Our libraries carry more than 30,000 books and our STEM labs are packed with materials for building and experimenting. We have one-to-one laptops available when learning calls for technology, but our students spend the bulk of their time learning from certified teachers and interacting with peers in the classroom.
To support diverse learning needs, our schools integrate modern educational platforms and personalized approaches.
One such platform, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), helps students develop organizational, study, and critical thinking skills, with a focus on closing achievement gaps and preparing students for long-term academic success. AVID encourages active learning and engagement through collaborative learning strategies and goal setting, beginning in the early grades.
Additionally, Amphitheater embraces a personalized learning approach, which supports teachers in tailoring educational experiences to individual student needs. By leveraging data and technology, personalized learning creates custom learning paths, allowing students to progress at their own pace and ensuring that each child receives targeted support where needed.
The Amphitheater District offers preschool in every elementary school and all three high schools, where students who are in the Early Childhood Education program work directly with our youngest learners. Our preschool educators are certified teachers who are trained to engage children and help them learn through play and hands-on activities. We offer inclusive preschool classrooms and special education classrooms, giving all students an opportunity to thrive.
Amphitheater offers free full-day kindergarten in all elementary and K-8 schools. In kindergarten, children are introduced to formal education in a nurturing and structured environment. Our certified teachers focus on developing key social and academic skills through play-based learning, hands-on activities and guided instruction. Kindergarten helps children build a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking while fostering creativity, cooperation, and a love for learning.
In first through fifth grade, our students receive a well-rounded, standards-based education. With small class sizes, each child receives personalized attention, fostering academic and social development. In addition to core subjects, students explore their creativity and physical well-being through enriching programs in art, music, and physical education. All of our schools offer gifted education, special education and all the support children need to reach their full potential.
Our schools work with families and children who have special educational needs to ensure that all the children in our District get the services they deserve. Our Student Services department and school site teams are highly trained and experienced.
At Amphitheater, we offer gifted education at all grade levels and recognize the importance of providing an opportunity for all students to achieve their personal best and contribute to their local and global communities. The mission of our REACH program is to support the intellectual, academic, creative and social development of our gifted students and our advanced learners.
The English Language Acquisition Department is dedicated to ensuring that all of our English learners (ELs) can participate meaningfully and equitably in the educational programs within the district. Our English Language Development (ELD) classes make certain those programs are successfully implemented by highly qualified teachers using appropriate instructional materials.
