Welcome to Reading Intervention at Painted Sky!
My daughter and I live in Rancho Vistoso. My daughter graduated from Grand Canyon University in April 2020 and she is currently persuing her Master's Degree in Psychology.    I'm so proud of her!  I have 2 wonderful basset hounds named Lulu and Blazer.  I'm known as "The Basset Hound Lady" around the neighborhood.

Defining Moment in Education

While attending college, I worked part time as a teacher's aide at my neighborhood elementary school.  I SO enjoyed working with the students that I changed my major and began working toward my degree in elementary education.  I have taught both first and third grade.  I absolutely love working with my students!  It is their smiling faces, their enthusiasm for learning, and the amazing growth they make are why I really enjoy being a teacher!

Core Educational Belief

My philosophy of teaching is that each child in my class is a special individual with individual needs. I believe children learn in many different ways and should have experiences that encompass the many different learning styles. I think children should be treated with respect, and I insist that the students in my class treat each other with respect.

I believe that reading is the foundation of all other subjects and students need to become strong readers to be successful in life.  I also want my students to LOVE reading as much as I do!

Prior Experience

I have been teaching in the Amphitheater School district since 1991  This is my 31st year! I taught first grade for the first 4 years, then third grade for the last 26 years.  I came to Painted Sky in the fall of 2002 after 10 years at Rio Vista Elementary and one year at Holaway Elementary School, also in the Amphitheater School District in Tucson.

I graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in Elementary Education in 1991.  In November 2008, I became a National Board Certified Teacher! And, this year will be my 31st year teaching!
