Fine Arts Curriculum
-
It is the goal of the Amphitheater School District’s Fine Arts Education Department to provide fine art opportunities in all of our schools as studies show significant social and academic benefits from fine arts in schools.
Critical links studies point to strong evidence that arts education helps students develop cognitive and social capacities that are important to success in school, life, and work (Deasy, 2002). We believe students must have many different opportunities to build on those skills. Art and Music are offered at all levels, from kindergarten through high school. Students may choose Band, Show Choir, Drama, Orchestra, AP Music Theory, 3D Art, Orchestra, Dance and much more. Our students consistently place at the top of regional, state and national fine arts competitions.
The curriculum for all fine arts courses engages students in common artistic processes: creating, performing and presenting, visual art, responding, and connecting. The Amphitheater fine arts department's curriculum is aligned to the Arizona State Standards.
The curriculum for all fine arts courses engages students in common artistic processes:
- Creating: Conceiving and developing new artistic ideas and work.
- Performing/Presenting: Realizing artistic ideas and work through interpretation and presentation.
- Visual Art: Interpreting and sharing artistic work.
- Responding: Interpreting and sharing artistic work.
- Connecting: Relating artistic ideas and work with personal meaning and external context.
