As we start a new school year in the Amphitheater District, it is a state mandate to do a hearing screening. This mandate includes screening (by class) all Special Education Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd & 5th grade students, students who receive special education/ speech services and all students new to the district.

Our Districts Hearing and Vision Team will schedule a day(s) to screen all students mentioned above. The school Health Aide will screen any students that have missed the scheduled screening and all new incoming students throughout the school year. Parents/ guardians will receive a letter from the audiologist if a student is in need of further hearing evaluation. This screening date will be added to the Health office website calendar and announced in an email from our Principal.

Vision screenings are required for special education preschool, kindergarten, third grade and students that receive special education/ speech services and all new to the district. Screening will be conducted by the Districts Hearing and Vision Team. The school Health Aide will screen any students that have missed the scheduled screening and all new incoming students throughout the school year using the Snellen or SLOAN chart (for distance & near), Pseudo-Isochromatic plate color test and Titmus optical stereo test (fly test) for ocular alignment. If your child wears glasses or contact lenses, please make sure they are wearing them on the vision screening date. Parents/ guardians will receive a letter from the Health Aide if a student is in need of further evaluation, which should be done by a licensed optometrist. This screening date will be on the Health office website calendar and announced in an email from our Principal.

If a parent, guardian or teacher feels a student (any grade level) is struggling with hearing or vision issues, a screening may be necessary, so please contact the Health office or your child's pediatrician to have them screened.

If you would like to waive the screenings for your child, you will need to do so in writing. Please contact the Health Aide at (520) 696-3850 for a waiver and/ or any questions.
