Welcome to Our Second Grade Class! 

I strive to create a fun and academically challenging classroom for every child. I want children to love coming to school and love learning.  I design our lessons and curriculum to meet the needs of every child in our class.  

I encourage the development of the whole child. Responsibility, respect, cooperation, and kindness underlie everything we do. I look forward to working with you to instill a love of learning with your family.

Class Expectations

*Behavior: I expect students to come to school everyday, on time and be prepared to learn. Students should come prepared with their stocked pencil box and agendas everyday. Students should have a growth mindset and be ready to try their best.  Students should be ready to have fun and learn! :)

Homework

Current research shows that homework does not increase a student's learning.  I believe that time after school is better spent with family or participating in extra-curricular activities.  A student may have homework if they did not finish their classwork that day or if they are working on a special project.  Also, reading is always encouraged as a daily activity.

Helpful Hints and Reminders

*Parent communication is essential.  E-mail is the best way to reach me.  I can only return calls before school, at lunch, or after school. 

*If there is a change in your child's afterschool plans during the day, please call the office to ensure that your child gets the message.

*Many students enjoy celebrating their birthday in class by sending something in to share that meets the student health and wellness guidelines of our district. Please remember that many students have food allergies. Other choices for celebrating birthdays include bookmarks, pencils, erasers, a rainy day game for the classroom, or a book for the teacher to read to the class.

School Hours and Attendance

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday     9:00-3:30pm

Wednesday (Early Out)     9:00-1:30

Attendance is extremely important. When students miss out on school days, they miss out on important concepts that they need to succeed in second grade and beyond. It is also imperative that students stay the whole day to have the fluid, quality learning needed beyond second grade. Please try to have your child at school between 8:30 and 8:45am so that s/he can have time to socialize with friends before our day begins. Late arrival and early departure disrupts the learning environment of all students and results in the loss of valuable learning time.
