Welcome Message: Welcome to Reading/Math Intervention. I like to think that I have the best job in the district! Why do I feel this way? Well, I am able to work in small groups to help students grow and improve with math and reading skills. In addition to teaching, I am a mother of two teenagers; wife of 22 years; and Community Club Leader of Pusch Ridge Riders 4-H Club. I lead a blessed life.
Defining Moment in Education: I am passionate in my belief that all students are able to learn to read. It takes much practice on the part of the student, but also a patient instructor who uses a consistent, systematic approach to reading instruction. While in college, a professor took a special interest in helping me with writing assignments. She modeled the importance of taking the time to intervene in a struggling learner's life. One person makes all the difference and I hope to do that, here, at Walker, as an Interventionist.
Core Educational Belief: Given the right tools and instruction, I believe all people can learn to read, write and think at a higher level.
Prior Experience: My prior experience includes teaching since 1991. In the past, I taught at several public schools in Texas as a regular classroom teacher and also as a Title One Math & Reading Teacher. Additionally, I worked as a reading tutor at University Reading Clinics at both Texas A & M and University of Tulsa. Recently, I have worked out of my home as a private reading tutor.
Professional Accomplishments: Teacher of the Year - Seguin ISD - Seguin, TX
Education Degrees & Certification: Texas A & M University (College Station, TX) is where I graduated with my Masters of Education degree in Reading Education. I attended St. Mary's University (San Antonio, TX) for my Bachelor of Arts degree.
