Canyon del Oro High School has a 56-year long reputation of providing students with an excellent educational foundation to prepare them for post-secondary opportunities. The campus was built in 1962 and started as a middle school. CDO was founded as a public comprehensive 9-12 high school in 1964. The school is located in Oro Valley, Arizona, located 6 miles (9.7 km) north of Tucson at the base of Pusch Ridge. At one time, CDO had over 3000 students enrolled prior to the building of Ironwood Ridge High School in 2001.
Accomplishments:
- Newsweek Magazine rated CDO in the top 5% of public high schools in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
- The Washington Post recognized CDO in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018 as one of "America's Most Challenging High Schools".
- U.S. News & World Report recognized CDO on their "Best High Schools" list in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2024
- The CDO Preschool is the first Career and Technical Education (CTE) preschool to receive a five-star rating statewide.
- CDO is also home to the 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 Arizona Academic Decathlon State Champions.
- CDO became an International Baccalaureate World School in 2012.
- Odyssey of the Mind Sophomore Team set a record for most Rantra Fusca Awards in one tournament, 2016
- Odyssey of the Mind Senior Team won the State Tournament and qualified for the World Tournament, 2016
- Dr. Carolyn Zeiher was named Circle-K Teacher of the Year, 2016
- Mr. Robert Cannon was named Circle-K Teacher of the Year Finalist, 2017
- Ms. Jill Christman was named Outstanding High School Faculty of the Year Finalist, 2018
- Ms. Michelle Gerard was named Outstanding High School Faculty of the Year Finalist, 2019
- Mr. Toru Tagawa was named Outstanding High School Faculty of the Year Finalist, 2020
- Mr. Chris Yetman was named Arizona Athletics Teacher of the Year, 2021
