Ms. Amy Martinez

Choir, Musical Theater and 7th grade ELA

I have had the privilege of teaching at Walker Elementary School from the beginning of my career. I have been teaching for 24 years. I have taught 1st, 2nd, 4th,5th grade and now this year made the change to middle school. I have 3 children. My interests besides teaching amazing students are theater, dance, reading and travel.

Defining Moment in Education

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was in kindergarten on. My most inspirational moment in education came in 3rd grade. My teacher was inspirational to all of our class. She had us learn by doing amazing projects and taught us things that went beyond what the grade level curriculum was but if we were interested in it then we would learn about it. She was a cheerful person that nothing got her down and she had a few physical challenges but always did everything we did. I saved an extra copy of everything from her class and kept it in my "teacher" box. When she retired she contacted me and gave me a wealth of books, resources and materials. She is the kind of teacher I always aspire to be.

Core Educational Belief

My educational belief is that ALL children can grow and achieve. I believe that any growth no matter how small should be celebrated and recognized. Seeing that spark when understanding happens is the highlight of my job.
