Richard B. Wilson Jr. School

I am extremely honored to be the Principal of Richard B. Wilson K-8 and work with the amazing students, staff, and families that call this school home. Wilson has a long tradition of academic and extracurricular success that is rooted in the relationships between students, staff, and parents. I look forward to working each day with students, staff, parents, and community members, as we strive to create a positive, safe, and challenging learning environment for all.

Defining Moment in Education

The defining moment for me occurred during my junior year of college. When I stopped swimming for the University of Arizona I was asked by my former club swim team coach to return to the team as an assistant coach. I soon realized that I loved developing relationships with kids and teaching them everything I knew about the sport. In addition, I found that I was often helping students with their homework before practice or when we traveled out of town for swim meets. These experiences made me realize that I wanted to continue to work with young people as a career. So I changed my major to Science Education and have never regretted it.

Core Educational Beliefs

I believe that all students can be successful academically and socially, given the opportunity. It is my responsibility as an educator to create an environment in which students are presented with challenging instruction that is aligned with their interests and meets their needs. I believe that school should be a safe and welcoming environment, where students can come and learn in the manner that best meets their needs.

Outside of School

When I am not at Wilson, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends at the pool, at sporting events, at dinner, or at home playing games. While I am by no means good at it, I enjoy golfing whenever I can take time away to play.
