Math
Every Day Math
This year in third grade we will extend their understanding of place-value of multidigit numbers through 1,000 and fluently add and subtract multi-digit numbers through 1,000. We will develop competency in multiplication and division, develop stategies for multiplying and dividing through 100. The students will learn to undertand fractions as a number, including unit fractions. There is so much to learn, and you will witness so much growth this year.
Reading
Peason Reading Street
Your child will be taught 3rd grade reading material with a focus on expository text. In addition, they will receive small group instruction at their current reading level. We have six total units for Language Arts with five lessons in each. We will focus on standards for literature, informational text, as well as foundational skills.
Science
Physical Science, Earth and Space Science, and Life Science
This year we will improve questioning and investigation skills, how to plan and carryout an investigation, develop and use models. We will be hand-on learning and having a lot of fun!
Social Studies
Arizona Studies (prehistoric to current)
This year we will look at what CIVICS means in terms of being a citizen of our country and state. We will learn about ECONOMICS and what industries and occupations have shaped Arizona. We will learn how people have adapted to the Arizona environment, the movement of people and how our state has changed over time.
Writing
5 Paragraph Composition
Your child will have direct writing instruction and will compose servel documents this year. Your child will grow in their ability to brainstorm, develop, edit, finalize, and present their work. They will work hard to not only be prepared for their end of the year assessment, but to also feel confident going into fourth grade. Included in your child's writing development are weekly Spelling words and vocbulary, grammar, parts of speech, and much more.
