General Information
-
Pay dates can be found on Payroll's webpage. The payroll report for the time a substitute works is submitted on Friday of the current week.
Being a substitute with Amphitheater Public Schools in no way constitutes an assurance of a minimum number of assignments. Employment is strictly on an on-call, as-needed basis.
-
403(b) Program
Substitutes may contribute to the voluntary 403(b) Deferred Compensation Program if they are substituting at least 3 days per week and more than 50% of the school year.
-
Credit Union
As a part-time employee of our district, substitutes are eligible to become members of Pima Federal Credit Union. The credit union offers low-cost loans and high dividends on savings. Other services offered by the credit union include shared draft accounts, insurance, money orders, travelers’ checks, free notary service, and family legal services. Their telephone number is (520) 887-5010.
-
Insurance
Amphitheater provides liability insurance coverage for all employees. However, substitutes may prefer to supplement their protection with their own private insurance coverage for liability.
-
Retirement/Social Security
If you work 20 hours per week for 20 weeks during a school year, (July 1st to June 30th), you become qualified to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System.
If you are currently, or will shortly, be receiving benefits from the Arizona State Retirement System, you must complete the Return to Work Section on the ASRS website under your name. You must also complete this form if you have any changes. If you are an Early Retiree, it is your responsibility to ensure that you comply with the 20/20 rule.
Substitutes are covered by Social Security and are required by law to contribute to the system.
-
Support Payments
In accordance with Arizona Revised Statute 23-722.02, the district is required to see information from new and returning employees to determine if they are subject to child support wage withholding. If you are required to make payments for child support or any other financial obligations, and Amphitheater Public Schools is your primary employer, please provide the Payroll Office with a copy of your court paperwork.
-
Tax Withholdings
Federal withholding tax is withheld from the substitute’s salary according to the number of exemptions filed on the W4 Form.
State withholding tax is your choice of: 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5%, 3.0%, or 3.5% of your annual gross taxable income.
If you wish to make any changes, you may contact the Payroll Department for the necessary form.
