  • How are substitutes placed in assignments?

    Posted by:

Substitutes are placed as-needed on the following basis:

    1. Employee request
    2. School request
    3. Area of expertise/specialization
    4. Availability

You will receive a confirmation number when you accept an assignment. Keep this for your records - if two people show up for an assignment, the one with the correct confirmation number will be paid.

  • How am I notified of an assignment?

    Posted by:

Substitutes are great, and are available for assignments on short-notice. To help us better serve you, please ensure we have your current telephone number, email, and adequate transportation to/from sites.

The substitute notification system is computerized and assignments are placed/accepted via text, app, or computer contact with the absence system. We highly recommend using the free mobile app which can be found on the Apple or Google app stores.

You may access the computerized absence system 24 hours a day to accept/manage your assignments. Generally speaking, text notifications will be sent from 5:00a - 10:00a for assignments on the current day. It will attempt again at 4:00p - 10:00p for assignments within the next two days.

For full details on how Red Rover can send notifications to you, view their guide here.

    A few helpful hints:

    • Keep paper and pen near your phone to record the name of the absent employee, name of the school, area you'll be substituting in, report time, and confirmation number. You must have the confirmation number when reporting for your assignment.
    • Keep a calendar with the date(s) you substitute, the confirmation number(s), and name of the school(s) for your personal records.
    • Change your availability in the absence system if you plan to be out of town or unavailable.

Should you have an emergency, or find yourself unable to fulfill an assignment, please log into the absence system (or contact the Substitute Office at (520) 696-5244) to cancel the assignment. Once canceled, you'll be unable to accept another assignment for that day.

  • How do I update my contact information?

    Posted by:

It's your responsibility to notify the District of changes to your phone number, email, address, etc. Not doing so will cause your file to be removed from active status and may cause a delay in receiving your paycheck. Contact the Substitute Office with any updates to your information at (520) 696-5244.
