Mrs. Jill Menaugh
Welcome to my webpage. I teach 3D Art (Introduction, Intermediate, Advanced, and Advanced Placement) at Ironwood Ridge High School.
Defining Moment in My Education: My work as a summer camp counselor helped me to identify my passion for working with young people and is the reason I chose to be a teacher. I love what I do because I am inspired by the insight and sense of humor that my students bring into the classroom each day.
Core Educational Beliefs: I believe that students benefit from learning to manipulate physical materials like pencils, paint and clay. Understanding the physical properties of materials and how they yield to your direction transfers into all parts of your life. As students learn to manipulate the materials, they can share their ideas, understanding and experiences through the art they create.
I believe that you will learn when you examine what you know, compare it to new information and then connect the new information to the existing knowledge. Studying and creating art is an excellent way to thoroughly examine an idea and figure out how it relates to your own understanding.
I believe that people build knowledge throughout their lives. Curiosity is integral in continuing to grow and evolve for people of all ages. Students who learn to ask "What if...?" and "How...?" build the skills needed to be a lifelong learner.
Prior Experience: I started teaching at Ironwood Ridge in 2017. Prior to that, I taught art at Amphitheater High School for 19 years.
Extracurricular: My family likes to play sports, travel and be outdoors.
