Mrs. Erin Merendo

Welcome back! I am so excited about starting my fifth year teaching at Ironwood Ridge. Before teaching here, I was a student at IRHS from 2008-2012 and I am honored to be back. I teach Resource Biology and Resource Integrated Science. I love working with students of all ages and abilities and helping them achieve their goals in and out of school. I believe it is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a teacher.

In addition to teaching, I'm a mom and wife. I enjoy crochet, scrapbooking, painting, and other crafts. I also love to read and plan events. This year I plan to further my education as I begin my master's degree.

Defining Moment in My Education

Growing up, one of my favorite things to do was play school with my siblings. When I was in fourth grade, my sister was diagnosed with a learning disability. Two years later, my brother was also diagnosed with a learning disability and dyslexia. As we got older, I helped them with homework and tried to help build their self-esteem. Watching them go through so much and develop a hatred for school made me realize I wanted to teach and be able to guide students and give them a place they feel safe and welcome!

Core Educational Beliefs

I believe that every child is able to learn and succeed when given the tools they need as learners. School should be a safe and welcoming environment for all students, as well as a place where they are excited about going. Additionally, students should be given opportunities to explore their interests and express themselves in the classroom daily.
